I’m Praneet, the first visually impaired student at IIM Udaipur. At just 1.5 years old, my vision impairment began surfacing to my parents, when I would run into walls while chasing a ball. Childhood was tough- teasing, exclusion, and self-doubt followed me through primary school. But, my parents stood by me like rocks through thick and thin.
My future would’ve been bleak had it not been for my parents and teachers, who helped raise awareness amongst my peers, enabling me to outgrow the teasing and develop self-confidence. In 10th grade, I scored 96% and the school that once expelled me invited me as the Guest of Honour- a true full-circle moment.
College brought new hurdles. Without structured support, I had to build a network of voluntary exam writers to assist visually impaired students. This inspired me to launch the Classic World Committee (cwcorg.in) which focuses on mobility training and volunteer support for the visually impaired.
My journey has taken me across 25 cities, sharing my experiences on YouTube and proving that no obstacle is insurmountable. From being recognized as a math genius on India’s Got Talent to becoming the first blind world champion at the UCMAS Abacus International Championship to receiving the President Award in Music from Shri Ram Nath Kovind, I’ve proved that disability doesn’t define potential.
At IIM Udaipur, I tackle several heavy subjects with assistive tools, audiobooks, and incredible support from the IIMU community. My dream? To build a company where at least 40% of the workforce comprises people with disabilities- because inclusion isn’t charity; it’s opportunity.
True vision isn’t about sight- it’s about perspective. I’ve stumbled, struggled, and doubted myself, but I’ve also found strength through those who have stood by me. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that limits only exist if we accept them.
